Who we are…

EMW Properties/General Contractor, Inc. is a family owned and operated business specializing in design-build and renovations. Eric Williams founded the company in 1985, opening the first office in the City of Falls Church and completing the first project on Great Falls Street. In 2012, Eric’s son, Matt, joined the EMW team, introducing new strategies and ideas, improving office efficiency and site management.

Eric Williams:

Eric has a long history in the construction business, receiving his first job as a carpenter’s helper during high school. He continued this work over summer breaks as he pursued his degree at Radford University. After graduating, he began his career in law enforcement. Due to the nature of shift work, he was able to carry out small construction projects on the side. He gradually took on larger and more complicated jobs, allowing him to build upon his construction experience. Eric was eventually able to go into business full-time and opened EMW Properties-General Contractor, Inc. in 1985. He has had his Class A license for almost 30 years, building in Fairfax County and Arlington and becoming one of the most prolific builders in the City of Falls Church. Eric grew up in the City of Falls Church where he raised his two sons, Matt and Stephen, with his wife Sandra. He has been an active member of the community, volunteering as a youth league soccer coach and working as a Varsity Lacrosse Coach for the George Mason Mustangs.

Matt Williams:

Matt Williams grew up around construction and real estate, working summers for EMW Properties/General Contractor, Inc and observing his mother interacting with clients and other agents as a Realtor. Matt attended college at James Madison University, receiving his degree in accounting and earning his CPA in 2010. He worked in public accounting before joining EMW Properties in 2012. Matt has been a vital addition to the company implementing systems to improve efficiency and best practices. He has helped EMW Properties transition to a more computer focused design and build firm with the same on-site high quality construction standards. His experience as a CPA drives him to stay on budget and understand the true cost of expenses. His goal is to come in on budget and pass value to EMW Properties’ clients.

Steve Robinson:

Steve Robinson is an award winning AIA registered architect, winning multiple Custom Home of the Year Awards; he has been working in the Northern Virginia area for the past 25 years. Steve earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Architecture from Kansas State and Virginia Tech, respectively. He has been designing homes and additions for EMW Properties for 19 years.

Eric and Steve both attend every client meeting to align construction strategies with design ideas to achieve the client’s wishes within the construction budget.

This access to the company’s owners ensures an exceptional experience. Close communication with Eric and Matt will also guarantee you the quality you expect in a project. We have great relationships with our contractors, most of whom we have been working with for years. Their experience provides you with the highest quality craftsmanship available and the best products and building techniques. The supervision of the owners ensures close attention to detail throughout construction.

For all projects, EMW’s honesty and transparency begins at step one. EMW provides a true bid of what a project will cost and a realistic timeline. We refuse to underbid work and hit clients with extra costs as the job progresses. We admit that this has prevented us from winning contracts; however this is how we choose to operate. As a result, we have developed a wonderful reputation within our community and left our clients more than satisfied growing our business through referrals.
